For the reluctant half of the couple
Hate having your
photo taken? Good.
You're exactly who I want to photograph. The stiff, arms-crossed, “just tell me what to do” person — that's who I've gotten good at over 28 years. You don't need to know what to do with your hands. That part's mine.
Most wedding photos look like wedding photos: chins down, weight on the back foot, everyone waiting to be released. I'd rather you forget I'm there and just be with the people you love. The pictures that come out of that don't look posed, because they aren't.
I work fast.
In and out, no marathon portrait session. You get your own wedding back.
I stay out of the way.
You'll barely clock me during the day. That's the point — you can't act natural while being watched.
The dread is my job.
The person who didn't want to do this usually ends up having the most fun. I've seen it happen more times than I can count.
From couples who dreaded it
Don't take my word for it.
The reviews I'm proudest of all say a version of the same thing: the one who hated the camera had the best time.
“My husband hates photos. On our honeymoon he said he wished Russ was there. I'd pay double and never regret it.”

The questions I get first.
- We're terrible in front of a camera. Is that a problem?
- It's the opposite of a problem — it's the whole reason to hire me. The people who think they're bad at this are the ones I photograph best, because I don't ask you to be good at it. I ask you to talk to each other and I do the rest.
- Do we have to pose?
- No. I'll put you somewhere with good light, give you something easy to do, and then mostly get out of the way. You won't be holding a fake laugh for ten minutes. If a real one happens, that's the frame I keep.
- One of us really doesn't want to do this. What then?
- That person is my job, not your problem. I've spent decades winning over the reluctant half of the couple. Usually they end up having the best time — and telling me so at the end of the night.
- What if we freeze up anyway?
- You won't be the first, and I know what to do about it. I keep it moving, keep it light, and never make you feel watched. The camera stops being the thing you're worried about within a few minutes.
